Hamburg Energie GmbH operates a virtual power plant (VPP) in Hamburg and the surrounding area. VPPs are a classic example of Industry 4.0 and IoT technology in practice. VPP software creates a network between a large number of de-centralised generation facilities, such as wind farms, photovoltaic systems and biogas plants, using the Internet.
Hamburg Energie uses the Hype platform. It was developed by Hamburg Energie as part of a research project and is constantly under further development; the development team is expanding too. This means the project is becoming increasingly complex, as is the scope of the requirements. Hamburg Energie therefore had to face the challenge of establishing a new process for documenting and managing requirements.
adesso led an Interaction Room workshop to develop a prototype process together with Hamburg Energie. Then a requirements process was set up.
Under the new process, specialist requirements are defined, sent to the IT department for a specification and then managed directly in Team Foundation Server. New requirements are assigned to individual developers, who are responsible for implementing them. This tool allows Hamburg Energie to manage requirements and keep track of implementation.
