Regulatory Framework – KRITIS Framework Act

With the KRITIS Framework Act, the legal pressure on operators of critical infrastructure is increasing significantly:

  • 17 March 2026 – Entry into force of the Act
  • 17 July 2026 – Deadline for initial registration
  • 17 April 2027 – Obligation to have completed a risk analysis

Important: A passive fence and mere video recording no longer meet the requirements – Section 13 requires active, automated real-time analysis of security-relevant events. Failure to demonstrate the effectiveness of protective measures, or insufficient proof thereof, may result in fines of up to €500,000 under Section 16.
