Developing an online property search portal

Bavaria’s capital city Munich is one of Europe’s most economically successful and fastest-growing cities. The German metropolis is currently home to about 1.5 million residents.

Project

According to urban development projections, Munich’s population is expected to rise to 1.65 million by 2030. Providing housing – and affordable housing in particular – is one of the city’s key responsibilities. The system for allocating social housing is to be reformed and made more transparent for house-hunters. A radical change in perspective to engage and encourage house-hunters is another major focus.

Result

adesso built an online platform for house-hunters who are entitled to social housing in the city of Munich. It allows people to apply for vacant social properties online. Once the application period for a property expires, the successful applicants are selected. Applicants must accept or reject the property to complete the process.

The SOWON (Soziales Wohnen Online – ‘Social Housing Online’) housing allocation platform, developed by adesso, went live in October 2016. adesso also took responsibility for maintenance and software updates, so that the platform could be further improved.
