LOTTO Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has awarded the contract to IT service provider adesso. In future, adesso will equip the retail outlets with standard consumer tablets instead of the previous specialised devices, which were manufactured specifically for lottery operations. In addition, adesso is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and further development of the software. For adesso, the project represents a further step towards bringing innovation to the lottery market with the ‘adesso lottery tablet’. For LOTTO Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it is also the flagship project of its digitalisation strategy.
LOTTO Mecklenburg-Vorpommern awarded the contract in September 2026. It is set to run for ten years and has a total value in the mid-single-digit millions of euros. The first terminals are due to be field-tested in early 2028, with the full roll-out across all retail outlets in the federal state scheduled for summer/autumn 2028.
From Specialised Device to Consumer Tablet
At the heart of the solution is the ‘adesso lottery tablet’: a management and operating environment based on off-the-shelf consumer tablets from Samsung, equipped with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI-supported functions. adesso presented the solution at the World Lottery Summit in Paris in 2024. With the project in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, adesso is now deploying the solution on a large scale. For device management, adesso relies on the Samsung Knox suite rather than proprietary custom software. Among other things, this tried-and-tested software solution simplifies the installation of regular updates.
Compared with the previous custom-built devices, the new tablets are also smaller and lighter, making day-to-day operations at the points of sale more convenient.
Added Value for Customers and Operations
Going beyond simply replacing the terminals, LOTTO Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will also introduce digital service stations for its customers based on the ‘adesso lottery tablet’. In future, these will enable customers to learn about the latest products, prepare tickets and add them to a virtual shopping basket. Customers will also be able to complete forms and applications entirely digitally, without any disruption in the process or the need to resort to older, print-based solutions.
