adesso ventures: Cloud ex Machina’s AI platform cuts cloud optimisation from hours to minutes

Start-up Cloud ex Machina (CxM) has developed an AI platform that simplifies cloud optimisation and integrates it directly into software development. IT service provider adesso is an investor in the US start-up via its venture capital unit adesso ventures. Instead of traditional dashboards, which only provide indications of potential savings, the Cloud ex Machina platform automatically generates test-ready code changes that flow directly into existing development processes.

The Cloud ex Machina solution addresses a widespread problem in cloud usage. According to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), studies show that up to 30 per cent of cloud expenditure is due to inefficient use and lack of cost control. But even when optimisation potential is identified, implementation often falls by the wayside. The reason is simple: root cause analysis eats up time, competes with feature development and requires deep insights into dependencies and configurations.

Automated change requests increase speed

This is precisely where the CxM platform comes in, automating the entire process. Its AI continuously scans the respective cloud environment, assigns responsibilities, identifies optimisation potential and generates specific pull requests. Development teams check the proposed changes like any other code review and can merge them immediately.

“Developers don’t wake up in the morning with a burning desire to optimise cloud costs,” says Thomas Davy, CEO and co-founder of Cloud ex Machina. “But for their managers and CTOs, excessive cloud costs are a highly pertinent problem that hasn’t yet been resolved. Teams are often unclear as to whether improving inefficient cloud utilisation will require five hours of thorough investigation or five minutes of code review. We’ve developed an AI platform that carries out the research, validates the fixes and generates the code changes, freeing up developers to focus on optimisation and development.”

The CxM solution closes a gap in the cloud FinOps ecosystem: instead of abstract advice, the platform provides concrete, actionable solutions. This enables companies to improve cloud costs, governance and technological resilience without slowing down their development processes.

adesso ventures: automation replaces painstaking work

“Unnecessarily high cloud costs are a widespread and costly problem in enterprise software development and application operations,” says Malte Unger, Managing Partner at adesso ventures. “Cloud ex Machina solves this problem with its AI-supported platform, which automates what was previously tedious and manual configuration work. Developers and DevOps experts don’t need another dashboard – they need code change suggestions that they can review quickly and implement immediately.”
