com2m GmbH was founded in 2013 as a start-up specialising in Industry 4.0. Since then, the company has evolved into an IoT-focused service provider that provides consulting and development services for holistic IoT solutions in addition to its own IoT platform. The business offers clients in industries such as manufacturing a wide range of support, from conceptual design and cloud development to operation management and data analytics. Its IoT platform has been continuously enhanced over the past few years, with clients regularly taking advantage of the software-as-a-service option (SaaS).

adesso takes over IoT specialists com2m and strengthens portfolio for manufacturing industry
adesso plans to become the sole shareholder of com2m GmbH. To date, the IT service provider has held a 59 % stake in the company. com2m has gained recognition as a digital transformation specialist with a focus on Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT), most recently generating sales of over EUR 3.5 million and an annual growth rate of more than 40 %. adesso will begin integrating the portfolio of the profitable business venture into the parent company with immediate effect as part of its range of innovative digitalisation strategies for the manufacturing sector.

The com2m team, consisting of roughly 50 specialists, will bring their professional, technical and methods-related expertise in the field of machinery and device data to adesso SE’s Manufacturing Industry (MI) business unit. As part of the parent company, they will support the development of modern, smart products and digital production services.
Dirk Pothen, the adesso Executive Board member in charge of the MI business unit, explains the reasons for the merger: “In our sales and projects situations, we’ve come to notice that there are more and more times when IoT needs to be incorporated into our solutions. Holistic concepts and integrated solutions benefit clients in the manufacturing industry tremendously. That’s why we’re now combining our strengths in service and product development and taking the next growth step as part of an even more strongly integrated team.”

Dr Martin Peters, the co-founder and managing director of com2m, will work with David Märte, who has headed up the MI business unit so far, to oversee the IoT business at adesso. He describes the challenge: “These days, smart products and the related IoT solutions are the basis for a wide range of digital services, including new business models. That makes it all the more important to fully incorporate such applications into existing processes and systems, creating a close link with many related IT systems and adesso’s core business. The same is true when it comes to digital production and Industry 4.0. The portfolio we share creates the optimum conditions for meeting every aspect of our clients’ needs along the value chain.”
Integrating com2m into its business will also enable adesso to expand its positioning and build on synergies in product development. Adding com2m’s IoT professionals will accelerate the efforts already under way to strengthen the portfolio for the manufacturing industry along the entire value chain. At the same time, the move will consolidate the specific knowledge surrounding IoT and related technologies in order to provide expertise to adesso’s other business units, regardless of the industries they serve.
adesso added its Manufacturing Industry business unit in 2019. The company’s focus on this core sector has grown rapidly in recent years, helping to generate EUR 51.7 million in sales in 2021. adesso first invested in com2m GmbH in 2016. Since then, it has successively increased its stake in the service provider and made the com2m IoT platform an integral part of its solutions through joint projects.
