adesso Joins the Open Logistics Foundation

The Open Logistics Foundation has gained a new member from the IT sector in the form of adesso SE. The Dortmund-based IT service provider brings extensive experience in implementing complex digitalisation projects and will, in future, help to make the Foundation’s open-source solutions accessible and usable for companies in the logistics sector. By joining the Open Logistics Foundation, adesso is intensifying its commitment to the logistics sector and expanding its presence in an industry increasingly shaped by digitalization and standardisation.

Strong Aynergies for the Digitalization of Logistics

The internationally active Open Logistics Foundation is a neutral, non-profit foundation dedicated to the development of open standards based on open-source code, which can be used directly by companies, extended and, under the OLF licence, also utilised commercially. The aim is to transform the entire industry through genuine digitalisation at the data and process levels. Some of the most pressing challenges have already been successfully addressed: from the standardisation of track-and-trace processes and the digital consignment note (eCMR) to the exchange of emissions data. As an experienced solution provider and implementation partner, adesso can support logistics companies in integrating the open-source solutions freely available in the Foundation’s repository into their existing system landscapes and further developing them to suit their specific needs.

“With adesso, we are gaining a partner who understands that open standards only work if they are widely adopted,” explains Andreas Nettsträter, CEO of the Open Logistics Foundation. “The Open Logistics Foundation thrives on a growing community that works together on solutions, and on partners who bring these solutions into companies.”

The Foundation recently unveiled the first industry-ready open-source solution for the digital consignment note, in the implementation of which IT service providers such as adesso can play a decisive role. The two organisations thus complement each other: the Foundation develops open standards and solutions, whilst adesso acts as a bridge to practical application and brings the expertise to implement them within companies.

“For us, open source is not a trend, but a strategic principle. Those who use and help shape open standards retain control over their own technology and lay the foundations for interoperability, resilience and digital sovereignty. By joining the Open Logistics Foundation, we aim to help ensure that open solutions find their way into companies and are translated into real-world applications,” adds Andreas Prenneis, member of the Executive Board at adesso SE.

adesso brings experience from sectors closely related to logistics. Whether in the automotive, retail or financial services sectors: the company has been supporting complex digitalisation projects in all these sectors for years and understands the requirements for interoperable, scalable IT systems. This expertise is now being channelled into the Foundation’s open-source community.
