  • Background and challenge

    A European retail chain opens several hundred new stores every year and needs a system to quickly identify profitable locations. Until now, an inadequate legacy system has been used. The new system needed to be available in 30 countries and 16 languages with an easy-to-use web interface for non-GIS experts. Extensive interfaces to internal and external databases had to be connected for this purpose.


    Solution

    adesso developed a modern, web-based map application using Scrum. The responsive UI is based on OpenLayers JavaScript SDKs, is touch-enabled, and can be used on mobile devices. More than 70 different data pools were integrated into the maps as layers and styled according to customer requirements. Various cloud APIs (e.g., HERE) were connected for the integration of POI and other data sources.


    Benefits for the customer

    The new system enables easy integration of internal and external data for data-driven decisions. An integrated system with domain-specific views of the data was set up to enable synergies between the individual departments and reduce the risk of wrong decisions. The special focus on simple, user-friendly operation has led to very high user satisfaction and very high user numbers in a very short time.

  • Background and challenge

    A customer from the insurance industry required a geodata application to perform location-based risk analyses. In addition to visualizing the geodata via a web-based client interface, backend services were provided to process and evaluate queries and return the results to the requesting systems for further use. Changes in hazard potentials during the project were taken into account by integrating additional data and services.


    Solution

    adesso provided a development environment and DevOps for continuous integration, ensuring 24/7 operation in a cloud environment. This included geoserver components for managing and providing geodata via WMTS/WMS, specialist service components for processing spatial queries (e.g., points, areas), and a web client component for visual analysis and creating thematic maps.

    The new architecture stabilized the existing implementation. The customer benefited from comprehensive front-end and back-end expertise and in-depth experience in the development, maintenance, and scaling of cloud-based applications—including reliable operation.

  • Background and challenge

    adesso is supporting the development of a data platform to consolidate KfW's funding portfolio with satellite and factual data on protected areas worldwide. The challenge lies in the lack of geodata infrastructure, the consolidation of numerous source systems, and the heterogeneous spatial and temporal resolution of the data.


    Solution

    adesso is helping to design and implement a target data structure and efficient ETL processes. Consolidating internal data silos creates a uniform database and a GeoNode-based data exchange platform provides secure, centralized access to geodata.

    The system standardizes internal and external geodata and serves as a central analysis platform. It enables the evaluation of funded regions, the verification of project progress, portfolio-wide analyses, and on-the-fly reporting. A comprehensive overview of data quality and plausibility ensures well-founded decisions. Thanks to seamless integration into internal platforms, the system remains flexibly expandable.

  • Background and challenge

    Our customer regularly provides geo and map data that must first be purchased or obtained from public sources and then enriched with additional, context-related information. The customer's previous data preparation process was based on an increasingly outdated solution. It was therefore decided to discontinue the existing form of data preparation and replace it with a new design and technical modernization.


    Solution

    adesso developed a new, cloud-based geodata processing routine that enables automated preparation and enrichment of the data. First, the technical requirements were identified, a scalable architecture was designed, and a future-proof data strategy was developed before implementation began. The new solution ensures efficient processing and provision of data on a modern technological basis.

    With the new cloud solution, the customer benefits from powerful and flexible geodata processing. Automated data preparation reduces manual steps, saves time, and minimizes sources of error.
