Claus, you are the expert at adesso for digital identities. What is your view on the new EU wallets?
I see this as a step forward, because the EU wallet will simplify many things from the citizens' point of view. Carrying your identity card, driving licence and vehicle registration document with you virtually is very practical, but it won't stop there. Because, and this is something that most people are probably not yet aware of, the EU wallet will soon also be a payment option.
Because the virtual wallet will then also contain credit cards?
Yes, and it will be possible to process payment approvals and conclude contracts via it. This means that users will essentially have a wide range of options at their disposal, which they will certainly get used to quickly. Conversely, this means that companies that are not EU wallet-ready in time will miss out on a great opportunity.
What is your advice to companies?
Don't waste any time! In order to accept EU wallets, for example in online shops, a secure technical solution is required. However, setting this up cannot be done overnight. Companies should therefore allow sufficient time. Although EU wallets will not be introduced until the end of 2026, companies should allow a few months for analysis and testing to ensure they are EU wallet-ready in time for the launch.
What sets adesso apart as a service provider in supporting companies in this area?
What sets us apart is that we offer more than just technology services. Thanks to our solution expertise in all industries, we support our customers in integrating processes and diverse system landscapes. That's something only adesso offers.
adesso is also one of the first signatories of a ‘Memorandum of Understanding on the successful introduction of the EUDI wallet’.
Yes, because we at adesso consider this digital identity standard to be very useful and want to encourage as many companies as possible to participate. The applications are practically endless.
What advantages do you see overall with EU wallets?
Well, it's an EU-wide standard. This makes it easier for customers from France or Spain to do business with companies from Germany. Ultimately, EU wallets generate more revenue and offer greater customer loyalty, as they are a new and very secure way of communicating with customers.
