BHS tabletop Connects Production and Customer Management with adesso and SAP

BHS tabletop AG, together with the IT service provider adesso, is pushing forward the digitalisation of its production and customer processes. At its production site in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate region, the porcelain manufacturer and tabletop specialist is introducing SAP Digital Manufacturing (SAP DM) as its new Manufacturing Execution System (MES). At the same time, the long-established company is modernising its customer relationship management with SAP Sales & Service Cloud v2. The goal is to create an end-to-end digital process landscape from manufacturing to customer service and to prepare for the subsequent migration to SAP S/4HANA.

The project focuses on closer integration of production, ERP and customer management. In future, production data should be more transparently available, processes should run more consistently and media discontinuities should be reduced. At the same time, BHS tabletop is creating a modern technological basis to implement future digitalisation and transformation initiatives faster.

“The digitalisation of individual processes is no longer sufficient today,” says Nicolas von Stülpnagel, Commercial Director, Finance and Controlling, IT at BHS tabletop. “The key is to bring together information from production, sales and service. That’s exactly what we’re now creating the technological foundation for, with a platform that can grow with our requirements in the long term.”

Digital Manufacturing with SAP Digital Manufacturing

At the Weiden plant, SAP Digital Manufacturing is gradually supplementing existing manufacturing processes with integrated digital production control. The goal is to make processes along the value chain more transparent, make quality processes easier to trace and use production data for process optimisation.

adesso is responsible for implementing the SAP-based cloud environment, integrating the ERP system and machinery and developing a template for operational and machine data acquisition. The solution is going live first in plate and cup production. Building on this, it will be gradually rolled out to other production areas. In addition, dashboards will be created for production key figures and analyses that support data-based control of manufacturing.

Modern CRM for Sales and Service

With increasing demands on integration, data quality and cross-departmental collaboration, BHS tabletop is also modernising its customer relationship management and replacing its existing CRM system with SAP Sales & Service Cloud v2. The project aims to make customer information available faster and to make processes in sales and customer service more efficient. At the same time, the new platform creates the basis for making the subsequent migration to SAP S/4HANA easier and more economical.

Foundation for Further Transformation

For BHS tabletop, the project is part of a long-term digitalisation strategy. In addition to the technological implementation, change management and employee involvement also play a central role. With the new platform architecture, the company is creating a foundation to implement future digitalisation projects faster and to respond more flexibly to new requirements.

“The challenge in such projects lies not only in the technology, but above all in gradually evolving existing production and business processes while bringing people along,” says David Märte, Business Area Lead Industrial and Retail at adesso. “Production processes cannot be transformed through software alone. The crucial point is that new systems fit the processes and the people in the company. That’s precisely why we combine SAP expertise with experience from complex manufacturing environments.”

BHS tabletop at the adesso smart factory summit 2026 Those responsible for the project will also share their experience externally: on 22 October 2026, BHS tabletop’s project managers will speak at the adesso smart factory summit in Frankfurt. Under the title “From Paper to SAP Digital Manufacturing,” they will present how the company is digitalising its production step by step. The adesso smart factory summit brings together users and providers from mechanical engineering, automotive, life sciences and other industries.
