adesso at DMEA 2026: Solutions for a More Efficient Healthcare System

Rising costs and a shortage of specialists are putting increasing pressure on the healthcare system. The current debates on reform aimed at improving the management of care reflect this strain – and at the same time represent an attempt to find solutions. In future, digital technologies are expected to help organise processes more efficiently and coordinate care structures more effectively. adesso will demonstrate how to meet these challenges at DMEA 2026 (22–24 April in Berlin). At its stand (E-102a in Hall 3.2), the IT service provider will present concepts for the “SHI app of the future”, strategies for modernising and transforming SAP and hospital information systems (HIS), and approaches for using cloud technologies and artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector.

Digital Care Management: The “SHI App of the Future”

A key focus of the trade show presentation is how digital applications can make a greater contribution to managing care in future. Health apps, such as health insurance apps, have the potential to play a significantly more important role in digitalisation. Rather than just providing administrative and service functions, they could guide policyholders along care pathways, support prevention, and coordinate care services more effectively.

Health apps act as a connecting element within the healthcare system. They have the potential to support policyholders throughout their individual care pathways, identify care needs at an early stage and enable targeted interventions – for example through preventive services, programmes for the chronically ill, or structured recommendations for the closest care facility. At the same time, they support the coordinating role of primary care and open up new possibilities for digital care management for service providers and health insurers.

IT Modernisation: A Central Task in the Healthcare Sector

In addition to digital care models, adesso will be addressing the modernisation of historic IT landscapes in the healthcare sector at DMEA. Many hospitals and healthcare facilities face the challenge of modernising their existing systems while integrating new digital applications.

One key focus will be on transforming hospital information systems (HIS) and SAP systems in the healthcare sector. At the trade show, adesso will show how existing IT structures can be modernised step by step, and what role cloud architectures, data platforms, and interoperable systems can play in that process.

adesso will also explore how data integration and artificial intelligence can help make processes more efficient in future and open up new possibilities for digital care models.

Digital Transformation in Practice: Workshops at DMEA

Health professionals will have the chance to experience how key digitalisation topics in the healthcare sector can be put into practice in a series of adesso workshops at DMEA:

  • SAP in the Healthcare Sector: We’ll Make You Fit for the Future
    Tuesday, 21 April 2026 | 13:00–15:00 | Panorama Room
The workshop is aimed at organisations that are preparing to transform their SAP landscapes. Topics include S/4HANA transformations, the replacement of IS-H, and new opportunities around SAP BTP, data strategies, and AI applications in the healthcare sector.
  • HIS Transformation in Practice: 4 Phases, 4 Topics, Your Key Drivers
    Wednesday, 22 April 2026 | 15:30–16:30 | Panorama Room
The workshop examines how hospital information systems are transformed across four central phases: preparation, tender, implementation, and operation. It covers everything from planning and control, processes in care and administration, digital systems and data, to the more organisational aspects such as change management.
  • From App to Impact: Exploring the SHI App of the Future Together
    Thursday, 23 April 2026 | 10:30–12:30 | Bellevue Room
In this interactive workshop, participants will develop ideas on how digital applications can support policyholders along their entire care pathways in future – from prevention and treatment through to digital aftercare.

Trade show visitors can easily register for the workshops on the adesso website.

In addition, adesso will be part of the DMEA Guided Tours and will be represented with presentations in the trade show’s Solution Hub.

Discussing the Future of Digital Healthcare

DMEA also offers visitors the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts from various branches of the healthcare sector. At the adesso stand, experts from the company will be available to talk to visitors.

“The healthcare sector is facing the major challenge of improving care without further increasing costs, while at the same time, driving large-scale digitalisation that delivers real benefits,” says Thorsten Vogel, Head of the Health division at adesso SE. “It’s becoming obvious that digital technologies – such as intelligent health insurance apps, the widespread use of AI, or the modernisation and opening up of central IT systems in hospitals – can play a key role here.”
