Background

Background

LVM Versicherung has a system and data landscape that has evolved over time and is highly heterogeneous in both functional and technical terms. Business units operate their own solutions and data repositories, meaning that important information is scattered, duplicated and not available in a unified, consistent view. As a result, implementing new data-driven use cases is complex, time-consuming and often tied to existing structures and individuals.

At the same time, the demand for digital services, end-to-end supported business processes and a fast, reliable data foundation for management and decision-making is continuously increasing. However, there is currently still a lack of a centrally organised, standardised data platform and clear responsibilities for reporting, advanced analytics and the use of AI, which would enable company-wide, scalable use of the data.

Challenge

The challenge

The evolving data and analytics landscape is being gradually transitioned into a unified, future-proof data platform without jeopardising the stability of ongoing business operations. This involves clearly decoupling operational systems from analytical use, standardising data products across the board, and establishing secure, regulatory-compliant public cloud deployment.

At the same time, it is essential to align business departments and IT with a common data strategy, embed new roles and governance structures around data, and build a vibrant data culture. The Data & Analytics initiative is therefore not merely a technology project, but a comprehensive transformation task for the organisation, processes and collaboration.

Project

The project

The new, unified Data & Analytics landscape is being built on a public cloud-first architecture on Microsoft Azure. The overall project is divided into three phases. In the first phase, the foundations of the new data landscape are laid, and the prerequisites for the subsequent broad rollout of data-driven applications

across the business units are established. To this end, an overarching data governance framework will be established, and the existing data quality management system will be expanded and ported to the new environment. In parallel, a data product map will be created, core data products for key domains will be developed, and the first domain-specific data products will be implemented as flagship projects to generate early, tangible value for the business units.

Solution

The solution

A joint, interdisciplinary project team comprising LVM and adesso staff is working together on-site in Münster. This collaboration focuses not only on technological implementation, but also on structured knowledge transfer, shared working models and empowering staff to confidently use the new data platform and data product approach in their day-to-day work. Through targeted training and coaching programmes, clearly defined decision-making and accountability structures, and transparent communication, new roles, governance structures and a modern data culture are being gradually embedded within the organisation.

Together, we will create a unified data platform that will take cross-departmental collaboration to a new level. The future Data & Analytics landscape will also form the basis for the introduction of innovative technologies and enable us to introduce and further develop data-driven business models.
