adesso and the management consultancy WEPEX are to join forces to actively shape the future of capital market business. The IT service provider and the consultancy firm will pool their expertise on capital market-related topics and offer a portfolio of adviso-ry services for blockchain-based innovations in the securities business and asset management.
WEPEX focuses on providing specialist and strategic advice to banks, stock exchanges, as-set managers, portfolio managers and other financial service providers. The collaboration brings together adesso’s IT expertise and WEPEX’s specialist securities knowledge. This combination of skills and strengths is intended to provide banks, stock exchanges, asset managers and capital management companies with added value along the entire value chain when it comes to the process-related and technological challenges of the retail and wholesale securities business. One particular focus will be on the blockchain-based upgrading of securi-ties and stock exchange platforms and the introduction of digital assets.
Blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) open up new prospects for the develop-ment of innovative business models and application scenarios in the securities business as well as in the operationalisation of digital assets. Upgrading from legacy platforms and imple-menting blockchain-based platforms and processes place the highest demands on IT and technical expertise in the financial sector.
Regulation is now also following suit and must be taken into account: the 2021 Act on the In-troduction of Electronic Securities (Gesetz über elektronische Wertpapiere, #eWpG) has paved the way for the digitalisation of securities in Germany. At European level, the regulation of crypto-assets through the Markets in Crypto-assets (MiCA) Regulation and the DLT pilot regime create a reliable basis for trading cryptocurrencies. It also enables financial service providers to hold securities and digital assets in safe custody for customers.
Ulrich Meyer, head of the Banking division at adesso, describes the aim of the collaboration: “Going forward, we will combine our technology expertise for financial service providers with WEPEX’s specialist regulatory knowledge, thereby raising our command and delivery capa-bility to a new level. This partnership enables us to cover the needs of online and neo-brokers for retail customers through to institutional wholesale business for banks, stock exchanges, asset managers and capital management companies from a single source.”
Arno Radermacher, partner at WEPEX, outlines the advisory offering: “Our joint portfolio ranges from the upgrading of legacy trading platforms and order management to processing systems, storage and custody.” Frank Thole, also a partner at WEPEX, says: “Business strat-egy, process reengineering as well as applications for new licences and support in meeting new regulatory requirements round off our service portfolio.”
As a software development and blockchain expert for financial institutions, adesso will apply its knowledge to the entire securities value chain, acting as a technology partner for the fund-sonchain platform and in the construction of platforms for neo-brokers and online brokers, for example. WEPEX is one of the most renowned capital market experts with profound exper-tise in the securities, funds, derivatives and structured products of all asset and risk classes, including digital assets.
