Municipal waste management company ZAKB uses adessoGPT for fast knowledge access

The Waste Management Association of the Bergstrasse District (ZAKB) has introduced an innovative AI-based knowledge platform in collaboration with the IT service provider adesso. The modular adessoGPT system provides a fully data protection-compliant and secure platform that makes in-house knowledge easily accessible via a chatbot. This allows efficient, role-based retrieval of information. This innovation optimises ZAKB’s business processes and enables well-founded decisions to be made in real time.

The aim of the project was to enable modern knowledge management in the company without taking the risks of freely available AI tools. “We wanted to avoid our employees needing to rely on insecure AI applications,” explains Sascha Bocksnick, Managing Director of ZAKB. “With adessoGPT, we are able to provide knowledge securely while significantly increasing our efficiency – without the risk of data leakage or compliance violations.”

The chatbot is structured in line with the ZAKB corporate design and accesses internal data sources such as SharePoint Online. The underlying infrastructure runs on Azure services and ensures that no prompts or data are transmitted to external models. In this way, ZAKB retains control over its own data. When working with the chatbot, integrated access rights ensure that only authorised persons have access to the respective content.

Shortly after go-live, the chatbot based on adessoGPT became the central point of entry for information searches. The solution is available to all employees with PC access and is used across all departments – especially where internal information needs to be accessed frequently. Further use cases are in preparation and are being developed by adesso with ZAKB in order to further scale the solution within the company.

“adessoGPT enables us to utilise our internal knowledge efficiently. The solution helps us to cope with increasing complexity and keep fee-related costs stable for the benefit of our customers,” explains Bocksnick.

“Many companies want to use generative AI, but not at the expense of data security or with experimental solutions. adessoGPT shows how GenAI can be integrated into existing structures quickly and in a controlled manner,” says Andreas Querndt, Head of AI Productivity at adesso. “The project with ZAKB shows that public organisations can also achieve tangible added value with the right architecture and clearly defined use cases.”
