Through this project, Netz Leipzig is modernising its core energy management systems in its capacity as a distribution system operator and the default metering point operator. The transformation enables more efficient processes, more flexible adaptations to regulatory requirements and the faster introduction of innovative components in market communication. The new system must be operational by 2027, as regular operations of the existing legacy system SAP R/3 IS-U will expire at the end of the same year. For the transformation, Netz Leipzig and adesso are relying on the RISE-with-SAP model.
Upgrading the Central Systems for Grid and Metering Point Operations
The technical scope of the project is challenging: the electricity and gas sectors are covered, and conceptual preparations are being made for the future integration of the district heating sector. All relevant energy industry processes, including smart metering, are supported. Furthermore, the project implements key regulatory requirements such as balancing group settlement (MaBiS), gas balancing (GaBi), Redispatch 2.0 and the Guarantee of Origin Register (HKNR). The SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) is used for these and other extensions, integrations and side-by-side developments.
Particular emphasis is placed on the migration and cleansing of existing data sets. Information relevant to billing is transferred from the legacy systems to the new S/4HANA environment in a structured manner, enabling Netz Leipzig to continue operations without interruption. For data migration, adesso is working with its long-standing partner Natuvion. Other project partners include Capgemini and Cronos.
The Rku.it Template Speeds Up Implementation and Reduces the Workload
As a project accelerator, adesso offers a template developed by rku.it. It provides tried-and-tested processes and structures that reduce the effort required for implementation and customisation. At the same time, it supports a clear separation of the core system and extensions and facilitates the stabilisation of the system after go-live.
adesso is supporting Netz Leipzig not only during the transformation phase, but also throughout the long-term operation of the solution. Following the go-live, adesso will take over, amongst other things, second-level support, incident and patch management within the RISE context, as well as the operation and further development of extensions and integrations. Continuous adaptation to new regulatory requirements is an integral part of the collaboration.
