Providing support in an ETL tool evaluation – talend

The WM Group was tasked with selecting suitable ETL tools within the scope of modernising its BI architecture. adesso was commissioned with conducting an evaluation of talend Data Fabric as an ETL tool in a proof of concept. The goal was to further automate and modernise existing processes. To this end, a suitable ETL and data input layer tool had to be identified.

In evaluating the suitability of talend Data Fabric, four specialist use cases were defined together with the customer and then implemented using talend. In order to implement the four defined use cases, adesso analysed the existing environment and converted them into talend jobs. As well as this, our experts defined a method for recognising differences for the purposes of a historical comparison.

After the proof of concept was successfully completed, adesso was able to generate the following added value for the WM Group:

• The successful implementation and presentation of results for the four use cases.
• A presentation of talend’s range of functions.
• A manufacturer-neutral evaluation of talend’s suitability as an ETL and data input layer tool for the customer.
• The development and presentation of a decision-making basis for selecting a suitable ETL tool.
