The process has already taken root – our initiatives

We’ve embedded diversity, equity and inclusion in many places within the company. This includes our catalogue of further education opportunities as well as our calendar of events. In addition, we use activities and offers to drive the issues forward. Here are some examples to give you a rough idea:

She for IT: prospects and career opportunities for women in IT

Our She for IT initiative aims to strengthen and promote women in the IT sector. Presently, 16 per cent of our IT professionals are female. The proportion of women in IT professions throughout Germany lies at 17 per cent according to the industry association Bitkom. Over the next few years, we will significantly increase the number of female IT specialists, consultants, managers and junior IT specialists at adesso. We’re making a long-term contribution to getting more girls and women interested in a future career in IT – and not just here at adesso.

Topics such as diversity in teams and the (internal) promotion of female talent are just as important to us as dismantling typical IT stereotypes. We want to contribute to making IT more female.

Commitment in black and white: we’re signing the Diversity Charter

The Diversity Charter (Charta der Vielfalt) is a German employer initiative for promoting diversity in companies and institutions. It was launched by four companies in December 2006.

The aim of the initiative is to advance the recognition, appreciation and inclusion of diversity in the German workplace. Organisations are expected to create a work environment that is free of prejudice. All employees are to be valued regardless of their age, ethnicity and nationality, gender and gender identity, physical and mental abilities, religion and world view or sexual orientation and social background.

adesso is one of the more than 4,000 companies that signed the Diversity Charter, committing itself to the values the charter represents.

Person of Trust: giving trust a face

Trust develops by communicating in a secure environment. Three employees at adesso have assumed the role of a ‘Person of Trust’.

The Persons of Trust receive professional training in dealing with conflicts as well as in communication. They are contact persons for all adesso employees. Their main task is to first listen to recounts of situations in which assaultive or inappropriate behaviour is purported to have occurred and assess them together with the person explaining what happened. The Person of Trust can then provide advice and, if necessary, lend additional support via mediation with more specialised contact persons in coordination with the affected adesso employees.

Interpersonal across borders

We are becoming more and more interanational - this is reflected in our daily work and our culture. Intercultural competences, among our staff and in the organisation as a whole, are becoming key qualifications. Our goals are:

  • Raising awareness of the opportunities and areas of tension in diverse and international teams.
  • Promoting cooperation and appreciation within these teams
  • Avoiding or reducing intercultural challenges or conflicts
  • Improve international communication
  • Sensitising new employees and managers to an international and intercultural, gender- and diversity-responsive working culture

A visible proof of our activities: the adesso training catalogue. Offers such as "Intercultural Competence", "Culture Awareness" or language courses facilitate the entry and promote the development of individuals.
