Moderner Staat 2010: adesso Showcasing Desktop Virtualisation and Presenting Ways of Using the New ID Card

Dortmund, 19 October 2010 –adesso AG will be exhibiting at the specialist trade fair “Moderner Staat 2010”, which is being staged in Berlin on 27/28 October 2010. At the company’s booth in hall 2, the focus will be on illustrative applications for desktop virtualisation, showcasing different ways of using the new ID card as well as municipal energy management.

In recent years, virtualisation has significantly changed server landscapes and data centres. Now the next step is to follow: enter desktop virtualisation. IT service provider adesso AG will be presenting a range of desktop virtualisation options at the specialist trade fair “Moderner Staat 2010” in Berlin. Among other things, the demonstration will show how employees using iPads or MacBooks can access central MS Office applications such as Outlook, Word or PowerPoint.

“Desktop virtualisation is giving public authorities the chance to tap tremendous potential to optimise IT costs, for example by centralizing the hardware and patch management,” comments Jürgen Vogler, Senior Business Development Manager, Public Sector at adesso. “On top of that, municipalities and city authorities will no longer have to make every conceivable IT solution available themselves. Many administrative routines including staples such as municipal trade tax, resident registration and passports can be provided at lower cost using a private cloud. But we also believe there are scenarios for the use of public clouds, e.g. to view planned construction undertakings or land register data. Other applications coming under the heading open data are also possi-bilities.”

The new ID card being issued in Germany effective 1 November will be an-other issue addressed on the exhibition booth. Thanks to the new ID card and its electronic identity features it will be possible to take care of many adminis-trative tasks online. adesso will be explaining the different possibilities in using the new ID card in purchasing and application submissions where signatures are not required. This refers more specifically to registering a business, re-questing right-of-way permits and submitting applications for concerts.

Adesso subsidiary evu.it will also present its service portfolio in the fields of application for municipal energy management. This refers specifically to nu-merous activities and initiatives dedicated to cutting energy consumption in municipal buildings and in the municipality itself by managing street lighting and traffic lights..

You can find adesso on booth 170 in hall 2 at the most important trade fair for issues relating to the public service. Udo Schwartz, Senior Consultant at adesso’s unit IT Management Consulting, will be rounding off the fair presen-tation with a talk entitled “Client 2015 - X-Pad & Virtual Apps in Cloud and En-terprise IT”. Schwartz will be covering the following issues: Are virtual desktops and applications the next logical step or only hype? What are the risks and opportunities? Are X-Pads tomorrow’s low cost desktop? Do companies and public authorities need a cloud? The talk is scheduled for Thursday, 28 Octo-ber, at 3:40 pm in the Best-Practice-Forum in hall 2.
